Yaps About Gap #1: Hello, France!

a beautiful addition to the awkward selfie collection. [LAX]

Yep, I’m currently writing this on my laptop, hunkered down comfortably in my new apartment in Versailles!

Today has been an absolute whirlwind. Ironically, flying Norwegian turned out to be way smoother than I expected, despite the fact that it was the first time I’ve flown alone since 2013, and we bought the cheapest possible one-way ticket. I’m about 75% of the way through unpacking all of my belongings, and I sure am glad not to be lugging around two massive suitcases and a deadweight of a backpack anymore!

Excuse the lack of pictures in this post–there wasn’t much time for stopping and sightseeing/snapshotting today, but I promise all of that good stuff will be on its way!

Versailles itself is absolutely charming. I’ll admit that I was initially hesitant about the ‘half an hour to an hour away from Paris‘ deal–I mean, my city is, after all, ‘half an hour to an hour away from Los Angeles,‘ but Versailles has its own unique character that I’m completely in love with. [Take notes, TO.] I can’t wait to explore this place! [And take lots and lots of pictures!]

The next few days for me will be mostly running around trying to get my bearings and pulling my life together sorting out my bank and school stuff, but I do get to go out to Paris in a few days for a little get-together! So far my French is terrible and I’m almost unbearably awkward, but I’m having a weirdly good time just kind of fumbling around and figuring things out in my own dopey way.

Hopefully I’ll be able to navigate my way through this new life of mine–but you’ll have to see with the next update, I guess. Until then, stay tuned!

Keep an eye out for the #yapsaboutgap tag on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube, as well as this blog for more gap year and Au Pair stuff!

Enjoy your travel in France. Since neither my husband nor I speak in French, one time, we needed something in the hotel, instead of try to speak in French according to the French for tourist, we just go to the front desk to show them the phrase in the book!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
